Greatsouth is heading back to BIG FAN this August to celebrate the release of debut album Hellhole of the Pacific with a special all-ages album launch and fundraiser show.

Taking place on Friday 21 August, the night will mark the first live performance of the album, with support from Louis McIver Smith, formerly known as Skinny & Soft, and Tãmaki Makaurau duo huaxiflowerstream.

The musical project of Mãori artist Payton Taplin, Greatsouth blends indie rock, Polynesian post-punk, taonga püoro and field recordings to explore identity, belonging and contemporary Mãori experience through a distinctly Aotearoa lens.

Named after an 1830s description of Kororãreka, Hellhole of the Pacific reimagines Aotearoa through an urban Mãori perspective, moving through stories of land, history and connection while finding the personal within the past.

The show will also raise funds for Greatsouth's upcoming BIGSOUND haerenga to Magandjin/Brisbane, where the project will make its first international showcase appearance. One hundred per cent of ticket sales will go directly towards supporting the trip.

With pay-what-you-can koha tickets available, expect an evening of loud guitars, hearty taonga püoro and community at BIG FAN.
